Hey Emerge, happy Wednesday! Tonight we began with an extended chat time, discussing the various things happening in our lives. After that, we moved onto a few announcements.

  • Convention – Not much has changed since last week. Convention info was sent out to parents this past week. Continue to leave a comment with your favorite fast food places & restaurants at emergeyouth.org/yc13.
  • Spaghetti Dinner – Also, not much has changed here. We’re having a spaghetti dinner on Sunday, February 10th, following the morning service. Please plan to be here to help with that 🙂
  • Glow Bowling – We’re planning to go Glow Bowling on Sunday, February 24th from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. More info is coming, but save that date if you’re interested.

After announcements, we moved into worship. Tonight was the first night with our new sound system, which worked amazingly well! Thanks to all those at the church who helped to provide that for us! Anyway, tonight’s songs were “Love Riot” by Worth Dying For, “Desert Song” by Hillsong, and “Risen From The Grave” by Worth Dying For. Following worship, Corey prayed & we moved on.

Next came tonight’s message discussing Jesus & the supernatural. Tonight’s key verse was found in Matthew 8:23-27.

23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

Corey talked about how Jesus did many supernatural things while he lived on the earth. After discussing the key verse, the teens did an activity that kind of demonstrated the supernatural. One teen would put their hand on top of another’s while saying “My name is (their name)” and then “My name is Bart Simpson.” When they said their name was Bart Simpson, their arm would start to fall since they were lying & their brain couldn’t focus on holding the arm up as much. (This is probably not the best explanation, but you had to be there to see it actually work.)

Following that activity, we read about a few more of Jesus’s supernatural works. They came from John 2:1-11 (Jesus turning water into wine) and Matthew 14:13-21 (Jesus feeding 5,000). Feel free to pull out your Bibles to look up those verses if you want the full stories. Next, each teen read a set of verses about other supernatural acts & answered a question about it. When we came back together as a group, they read their verses & explained their answer to the question.

Corey then wrapped up the message and ended with a question asking about when we’ve believed in God’s power & seen it do things. Many things were discussed, including God’s provision for the church as we’ve needed various things in the past.

QOTW: What kinds of things have you seen God do/provide for you or others?
