Welcome to 2013…and the first Wednesday night of the new year! Tonight, we started out with our chat time & announcements. Here are the highlights.

  • We’re ending the Bonus Book sale. Please return any Bonus Books you haven’t sold to the church ASAP (preferably by next Wednesday)
  • Convention is quickly approaching. While we don’t have much info yet, you can check out our Facebook page to see the picture that PennDel Youth posted to tease us today. At this point, we need to know who is planning to go for sure.
  • Week of Prayer – The Assemblies of God sets aside the first full week in January for the “Week of Prayer” each year. To learn more about what our church is doing, please visit www.doverassembly.com/week-of-prayer.

After the announcements, we moved into our time of worship. It was definitely nice to get back into that, after not having worship for several weeks over the holidays. Tonight’s songs were “Rooftops” by “Teens,” “I Am Not the Same” by Unhindered, and “How Great Is Our God” by Hillsong London. Even though our sound system was acting up, it was definitely cool to hear the teens continue to sing “How Great Is Our God.” After worship, Corey prayed, then we moved onto the mini message.

Tonight’s message began a series of sorts that we’ll be going through over the next several weeks. The title of tonight’s lesson was “Who Jesus Really Is.” It was based on Luke 9:12-20.

12 Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.”

13 He replied, “You give them something to eat.”

They answered, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.” 14 (About five thousand men were there.)

But he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” 15 The disciples did so, and everybody sat down. 16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to set before the people. 17 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

Peter’s Confession of Christ

18 Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say I am?”

19 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.”

20 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”

Along with the passage from Luke, the “key verse” for tonight was Jeremiah 29:13.

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Following the message, the teens ended the night with an activity where they stood across the room and one another and wrote down words to describe the other person’s appearance. After the first two minutes, they moved so they were only a few inches apart and did the same thing. The activity demonstrates that when we are closer to God, we will know more about Him, and follow after Him more.

Have an awesome week & we’ll see you Sunday!

QOTW: Is there anything you’re hoping to accomplish this year?
