Hey Emerge! Happy Wednesday! Tonight began differently than normal, as we used an extended version of chat time to sing Happy Birthday to Alexis and enjoy some cupcakes that Heather & Corey brought in. After all that, we began worship around 7:00 pm. Tonight’s worship songs were “Your Love Never Fails” by Jesus Culture, “How He Loves” by David Crowder Band, and “From The Inside Out” by Hillsong. Following worship, Corey prayed and we moved on to tonight’s message.

Tonight, Corey talked about how we are created in God’s image. He started the lesson by showing us a few items. We were then asked to guess why he was showing them to us. The answer was that they are valuable to him, just like we’re valuable to God, even though we can’t really fathom that. Tonight’s main verses came from Genesis 1:26-31 (NIV):

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

27 So God created mankind in his own image in the image of God he created them male and female he created them.

28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earthand subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Even though the world might not see us as being valuable, we can be encouraged that God’s standard is the exact opposite, meaning we are incredibly valuable in His eyes. To further explain his points, Corey also used the following verses:

  • Ephesians 2:10
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
  • Psalm 100:3

After the message, we spent the rest of the night hanging out in the youth room, and eventually headed outside for the final few minutes.
